HIBERNIA ATLANTIC ENDORSES THE WHITE HOUSE AND US NAVY INITIATIVE FOR
DEFENDING AMERICA FROM CYBER-SECURITY THREATS
SUMMIT, NJ & DUBLIN, IRELAND – May 7, 2009- Hibernia Atlantic, the largest, privately held and only diverse TransAtlantic submarine cable provider, recognizes and endorses the Obama administration’s focus on cyber-security concerns, which reiterates the company’s network commitment to ‘security through diversity’. This comes at a unique time as Hibernia Atlantic embarks on laying a new submarine cable into Northern Ireland.
The Obama administration is clearly committed to securing the country and communication systems from attacks. At the Center for International and Strategic Studies forum, held May 1st in Washington DC, Admiral Gary Roughead of the U.S. Navy stated that “cyberspace is on the bottom of the ocean.” His speech made it clear that the U.S. Navy has a major role to play in defending the nation’s computer networks, since much of the world’s Internet traffic travels along undersea cables, and if adversaries attempt to disrupt data transmissions, the service men at sea will play a critical role in responding.
Hibernia Atlantic is a secure and diverse fiber optic submarine cable network. It owns and operates the most Northern modern submarine cable system across the Atlantic Ocean as well as a terrestrial fiber network in Europe and North America. Hibernia prides itself on network diversity around the major metropolitan areas. This network design ensures optimal physical security through diversity for the delivery of confidential data that is consumed by carriers, global financial institutions, Governments and other major IP bandwidth suppliers. In addition to its network spanning the Atlantic, Hibernia Atlantic is currently building a new cable, ‘Project Kelvin.’ This system will connect Northern Ireland to North America, the UK and the rest of Europe, as well as provide a terrestrial cable route that includes Belfast and (13) other cities in the region. This network extension will provide additional alternate routing and connectivity solutions.
As evident in this video, www.youtube.com/watch?v=HT47KLEHhTM&feature=related, for the past few years, Hibernia Atlantic has been consistently touting the message of ‘Security through Diversity.’ Eric Gutshall, EVP of Hibernia Atlantic Sales & Marketing states “global companies are interested in low latency and secure bandwidth, where critical information can avoid common and congested backhaul routes around London and New York City waterways. This is attractive for global banks, content delivery networks, media houses, international carriers and others who require large bandwidth via a secure and diverse footprint from North America to Europe.”
John T. Bennett, the author of “U.S. Navy Boosts Cyber Focus,” published on May 4, 2009 in Defense News, wrote about the White House Administration, the Pentagon and the U.S. Navy’s priorities and team effort to protect America from global cyber-threats. Gutshall commented “this is exactly what Hibernia’s ‘Security through Diversity’ network design ensures.”
