
Hibernia Atlantic was established by CVC – Columbia Ventures Corporation – to
acquire the Trans Atlantic cable network system that was originally constructed
by 360Networks in 2001 at a cost then in excess of €900M.
The acquisition cost of this enormous operational asset was
just $17.2m. This comparatively very low capital investment has enabled
Hibernia Atlantic
to provide the most advanced Trans Atlantic communication services at
exceptionally low cost to their customers. This economic breakthrough
has enabled companies to totally re think their corporate connectivity
strategies across the Atlantic.

Ken is Chief Executive Officer of CVC – Columbia
Corporate Ventures. He graduated from Willamette University's
College of Law in 1980. He had earlier earned an AB in Government,
with High Honors, and been inducted into Phi Beta Kappa at The
College of William and Mary. In 1987, while actively practicing law, he purchased
and re-opened an aluminum smelter in Washington State.Subsequently he founded Columbia Ventures Corporation
and led in the creation or acquisition of several subsidiary
businesses.In 1996 the Washington smelter was split-off.In 2000 the CVC extrusion group was purchased by
a subsidiary of British company Novar.
Ken is a Director of American Capital Strategies Inc. a NASDAQ-listed company
and is also Director of the Washington Policy Center, a non-profit research
center.

Mr. Hensel has extensive experience with medical and manufacturing start-up companies. Most recently Mr. Hensel started HemCon in 2001. Hemcon is a chitosan-based hemorrhage control bandage company. HemCon is now ~50 employees, positive cash flow and profitable. Prior to Hemcon, Mr. Hensel built a $315 million aluminum smelter in Iceland , and microbreweries around the western US. Mr. Hensel was previously a partner at Ater Wynne, a large law firm in Portland , Oregon . Mr. Hensel holds a BA from Harvard University and a JD from Willamette University College of Law.

Mr. Thorvardarson is also CEO of CVC Iceland Holding,
Ltd. Before joining CVC/Hibernia Atlantic, Mr. Thorvardarson
was CEO of the investment fund Talenta, Senior Account Manager
for the Icelandic Investment Bank and VP of Software Development
for Tecnival, Iceland. Mr. Thorvardarson has an M.Sc. degree in Finance
from London Business School, a MBA from Institut Superieur de
Gestion in Paris and a M.Sc. in Engineering from the University
of Wisconsin-Madison.

Mr. Roman was appointed President of Columbia Ventures Corporation in December 2004 and also serves as Chief Financial Officer since 2000. Mr. Roman previously held the position of Chief Operating Officer since 2000.Prior to joining CVC in 1992, Mr. Roman was a partner in the Portland, Oregon office of Coopers & Lybrand. During his 17 years at C&L he was also resident in the firm's Boston and Paris offices.Mr. Roman is a graduate of Grinnell College and the Graduate School of Business of The University of Chicago. He is a member of the board of directors of Northwest Pipe Company, a NASDAQ-listed company. |
