PROJECT KELVIN
The Northern Ireland Project Kelvin Build: Hibernia Helps the Governments and People of Ireland Interconnect to North America and Europe

Hibernia Atlantic was selected by the Department of Enterprise, Trade & Investment (DETI) for Northern Ireland and the Irish Department of Communications and Natural Resources (DCENR) to deploy “Project Kelvin”. Project Kelvin is an extensive submarine and terrestrial cable deployment that will directly connect Northern Ireland to North America.
Hibernia Atlantic has brought its industry leading fiber optic submarine cable ashore at Portrush, Northern Ireland. This cable will connect to Hibernia Atlantic’s terrestrial fiber optic ring currently being deployed to 13 towns and cities, including Armagh, Ballymena, Belfast, Coleraine, Londonderry, Omagh, Portadown, Strabane, Letterkenny, Castleblayney, Dundalk, Drogheda and Monaghan.

Additionally, the cable system will connect to Hibernia Atlantic’s existing secure and diverse transatlantic build, thereby directly connecting Northern Ireland and the island of Ireland to North American and Europe.
This Project Kelvin cable build will add much needed capacity to this region to further support both local and global companies. Local companies are attracted to the high capacity, extremely secure and reliable network. Businesses can now increase their communications and next-generation Internet service offerings as well as increase their access to a larger marketplace of available service providers.
The new network is also attractive to global companies, such as leading financial houses, exchange markets, service providers and media companies, who require fast, low latency bandwidth that avoids traditionally congested routes, such as around the New York and London waterways.

PROJECT EXPRESS
Hibernia Atlantic's Global Financial Network is continuing to push its borders with lowest latency routing options and extended reach. Hibernia just announced its plans to construct the lowest latency transAtlantic submarine fiber optic cable network, with sub 60 ms latency, connecting New York to London. This will be a first in transAtlantic cable history. We call this Project Express.

A state-of-the-art submarine network build, Express will be the shortest route from New York to London that will initially be lit with 40G technology and can be upgraded to 100G technology in the future. Express includes an entirely new, all marine, four- fiber pair, transAtlantic optic cable system. This new route, which will be the first new transAtlantic cable in nearly ten years, is significantly lower latency than all other transAtlantic cable systems.
“Demand for low latency routes has grown exponentially over the past several years,” states Bjarni Thorvardarson, CEO of Hibernia Atlantic. "Project Express will offer the lowest latency from New York to London and provide demanding customers the speed and accuracy they require." Furthermore, the new Express transatlantic cable will allow customers to reach other key financial cities and will offer lowest latency connections between Frankfurt and London and into Chicago, New York City and Toronto. Additionally, Toronto will now connect into London at sub 70ms.
