BJARNI K. THORVARDARSON

CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

Mr. Bjarni Thorvardarson is the CEO of HiberniaNetworks since January 2005.  Mr. Thorvardarson joined CVC, Hibernia’s parent company, in 2002 from ISB bank where he launched and managed the listed Talenta-Technology fund which focused on emerging communication and IT opportunities. Prior work experience includes investment banking at FBA bank, management of an MIS department and European Sales Director of an IT company. Mr. Thorvardarson holds an M.Sc. degree in Engineering from UW-Madison, an MBA from ISG in Paris and an M.Sc. in Finance from London Business School. Mr. Thorvardarson serves on the board of One Communications, Magnet Networks.

KATHY PERONE

CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER

Kathy Perone is an industry veteran with over 30 years of experience in domestic and international telecommunications services. Additionally, she has successfully pioneered leading-edge service offerings for Media, Financial, Government and Global Enterprise customers.  Prior to joining Hibernia Networks, Ms. Perone has spent the past 5 years as President of XLNT Technologies, providing consulting services to a variety of private equity, investment banking and telecommunications providers. Prior to that, she was CEO of Westcom, President and CEO at Focal Communications and President, North America at Level 3 Communications. She has served on the Board of Directors for four public and six private companies in the technology & telecommunications industries over the last ten years. Kathy is a graduate of Rutgers University and majored in Business Administration with a concentration in Economics & Marketing.

   

ERIC GUTSHALL

PRESIDENT OF WHOLESALE

Mr. Eric Gutshall, President of Wholesale for Hibernia Networks, has over 20 years experience in the Telecommunications industry. A proven thought leader in the carrier and wholesale Telecom and Finance sectors, Mr. Gutshall oversees the company’s sales growth across a wide variety of global customers.

His professional experience includes Executive Director of Global Sales and Channel Management at Tyco Telecommunications (TSSL), as well as senior roles in Sales, Business Development, and Channel Management. Prior to working with Tyco Telecom, Mr. Gutshall was a Branch Director at MCI Telecommunications in the heart of Wall Street, where he was focused on international and domestic network infrastructures.

Mr. Gutshall has a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Management from the College of Applied Professional Sciences, The University of South Carolina, Columbia, South Carolina (USC).

LLOYD JARKOW

CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER

Mr. Lloyd Jarkow is the Chief Financial Officer of HiberniaNetworks.  An industry veteran with over 16 years of finance experience within the international telecommunications sector, Mr. Jarkow manages, plans, and maintains all financial aspects of the company.  

Prior to joining Hibernia Networks, Mr. Jarkow served as Vice President of Corporate Development at AboveNet Communications where he oversaw corporate development, investor relations, business planning, treasury and corporate finance.  Previous experience includes the role of Finance Director for Metromedia International Telecommunications, where he successfully led the financial planning and analysis group.  Prior to his involvement in telecommunications, Mr. Jarkow worked as an acquisitions analyst in the real estate industry and as a Management Consultant.

Mr. Jarkow holds an undergraduate degree from Cornell University and an MBA from UCLA Anderson.
 

JAMES P. PRENETTA, JR.

GENERAL COUNSEL

Mr. Prenetta is General Counsel for the Company.   Prior to joining the Company in September 2009, Mr. Prenetta served as Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary for One Communications which was created in June 2006 from the combination of CTC Communications Corp. (for whom Mr. Prenetta served as Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary from December 2003 to June 2006), Choice One Communications and Conversent Communications.

Prior to joining CTC Communications, Mr. Prenetta was Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Viatel Holding (Bermuda) Limited and its predecessor Viatel, Inc., a provider of  integrated telecommunications services to individuals, corporations, internet service providers, applications services providers and other communications carriers in Europe and North America.  Prior to joining Viatel in July 1999, Mr. Prenetta was a partner in the securities practice group at Kelley Drye & Warren LLP, New York, New York, where he represented both corporations and underwriters in transactions involving SEC registered issues of debt and equity securities, including initial public offerings, shelf offerings, Rule 144A offerings, private placements and friendly tender offers.  Prior to joining Kelley Drye in November 1994, Mr. Prenetta was an associate at Mudge Rose Guthrie Alexander & Ferdon, New York, New York.

Mr. Prenetta received his undergraduate degree from the University of Connecticut (B.A., summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, 1984) and his law degree from The Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law (J.D. 1987), where he was the student editor-in-chief of the Journal of Contemporary Health Law and Policy and a graduate of the  Communications Law Institute.  Mr. Prenetta is admitted to practice law in the States of Connecticut, New York and the District of Columbia and is a Member of the Institute of Directors in the United Kingdom.

 
Mike Saunders
Mike Saunders joined Hibernia Networks from Level (3) as the VP of Business Development on April 2, 2008. Mike began his career in 1977 with Cable & Wireless in various roles including Satellite Policy and Planning and Satellite Operations. In 1986 he transferred to the Mercury business unit where he was responsible for Submarine Cable Planning for their international submarine, cable network capacity and was involved in the very first deployment of digital subsea cables throughout the late eighties and into the early/mid nineties. Mike spent time in the area of Product Development of Data Services with Mercury before moving to Nynex Cable Communications in Voice Product Development before returning back to C&W for further subsea cable deployment in the Asia/Pacific rim.

In September of 1998, Mr. Saunders joined Level (3) as their Director of Business Development. Upon his arrival, Mike significantly impacted the build-out of Level (3)’s European and Asian Network(s). Since then, he has led product management for their subsea service portfolio as well as managed their substantial transatlantic assets.


FELIPE J. ALVAREZ

SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT GLOBAL INFRASTRUCTURE

Mr. Alvarez has over 25 years of telecommunication industry experience spent with start-ups,
mid-cycle and large mature companies. Prior to joining Hibernia, Mr. Alvarez founded FJ Alvarez
Advisors LLC, a boutique consulting firm providing advisory services to a variety of clients. Prior
to starting his own business, Mr. Alvarez was President & COO of Sidera Networks (formerly
RCN Metro, the telecommunications business unit of RCN Corporation). Under his leadership,
through a variety of organic and acquisition-driven strategies, RCN Metro became a premier
provider of tailored, high-capacity mission critical communications services to Enterprise as well
as Service Providers - RCN Corp. was successfully sold in late 2010. Prior to RCN Metro, Mr.
Alvarez was COO of Con Edison Communications Inc. where he developed and led the team
that build its network and service infrastructure from a greenfield condition. Felipe has also held
senior-level management positions in a variety of functions in other telecom start-up companies
as well as in well-established players such as NYNEX and Bell Atlantic. Mr. Alvarez holds a
Bachelor of Engineering degree from The City College of New York and an MBA from New York
University.

 
 

DEREK BULLOCK

VICE PRESIDENT OF PROJECT DEVELOPMENT, HIBERNIA EXPRESS

Mr. Bullock has been part of the Hibernia Cable story since its build phase, as far back as 2001. He has risen through the company to his present position and has an intimate knowledge of every aspect of the system, from the cable station physical infrastructure to the submarine cable systems. He is expert in Nortel, Opera, Sycamore, Tycom and a host of other OSS's, as well as being the design architect of our in-house IT systems.

Derek studied for the NDEC Diploma/Degree in Information Technology, National Distance Education Centre, Dublin City University and also holds a host of Cisco and Nortel Accreditations.

ROBERT MCMANN

VICE PRESIDENT OF REVENUE ASSURANCE

Robert McMann joined Hibernia Networks in January 2007 and currently serves as the Vice President of Provisioning & Procurement. Prior to Hibernia Networks, Mr. McMann was the Director of Operations at KeySpan Communications, a regional competitive access provider. He was responsible for the specification, design, procurement, installation, operation, and maintenance of all Fiber Optic Network Equipment including SONET/SDH multiplexors and DWDM systems. Additionally, Mr. McMann was very active in the business development and strategic planning efforts, and led the development of strategic, vertical markets including Finance, Research and Education.

Prior to joining KeySpan Communications, Mr. McMann was the supervisor of wireless communications for KeySpan Energy. He was responsible for all VHF, UHF, ISM Band, Microwave, and Satellite systems for the various operating divisions on a 24x7x365 basis. Mr. McMann also held lead engineering positions in the Distribution, Automation and Electrical Engineering Departments.

Mr. McMann received a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the New York Institute of Technology in 1989, and a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering from Polytechnic University in 1990. He also completed a Masters degree in Telecommunications from Stony Brook University in 1998. He has been a member of the IEEE since 1987.

DAVID SMITH

VICE PRESIDENT OF NETWORK OPERATIONS

Mr. Smith has over 20 years experience in the Telecommunications Industry. He previously worked with Yorkshire Cable where the company was taken from concept to operating multiple PDH & SDH networks and Video Headends throughout South Yorkshire before being acquired by Telewest Communications. Mr. Smith joined 360 networks in July 1999 in the infancy stage of the transatlantic network build, taking the system and European Cable Landing Stations to operational readiness over an 18 month period. 360 Networks subsequently was acquired by CVC and became Hibernia Networks in 2003. Mr. Smith has held various roles in the company and has been instrumental in the planning, implementation and management of Hibernia’s terrestrial network growth in the UK, continental Europe & North America.

 

   

NIAMH KELLY

VICE PRESIDENT OF HUMAN RESOURCES

Niamh Kelly joined the Hibernia Networks team in January 2009 as the Human Resources Director.  Prior to this, Ms. Kelly worked for and continues to support Hibernia’s sister company Magnet Networks.  Ms. Kelly joined Magnet Networks in March 2007 from SiTEL, where she was HR Manager, and prior to that worked in British Telecom as HR Business Partner. Her previous experience includes strategic programmes involving culture change, reward scheme rollout, re-organisations along with M&A & Outsourcing activities.

Ms. Kelly holds BA Honours from UCD and an HR Degree from NCI. She is Chartered MCIPD and has over ten years experience managing Human Resources.
